Falls prevention in construction
Final report on the Australian & New Zealand joint compliance project
History was made in May 2004 when, for the first time ever, inspectors from every Australian State and Territory and from New Zealand conducted a coordinated campaign of building site visits to focus on the prevention of falls.
The campaign was an initiative of the Heads of Workplace Safety Authorities (HWSA), and it was the first joint compliance project mounted under the National OHS Strategy 2002-12. The strategy calls for national efforts to prevent workplace death, injury and disease.
The nine partipating workplace safety authorities were:
- WorkSafe Victoria, which acted as the project coordinator
- WorkSafe WA
- NT WorkSafe (Northern Territory)
- WorkCover New South Wales
- ACT WorkCover (Australian Capital Territory)
- Workplace Health & Safety Queensland
- Workplace Services South Australia
- Workplace Standards Tasmania
- Occupational Safety & Health Service, New Zealand
The report on the project has now been approved by HWSA for general circulation to the construction industry and any other interested parties.
