Carer's leave

The Minimum Conditions of Employment Act 1993 allows employees to use paid sick leave as carer’s leave

Full time and part time employees are entitled to use up to 10 days of their sick leave entitlement each year as carer’s leave.

If this entitlement is unavailable or exhausted, employees (including casuals) are entitled to take up to two days unpaid carer’s leave for each occasion that a family or household member needs care. 

An employer can request that an employee provides reasonable proof when taking carer’s leave.
