Independent type A gas inspectors
The Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999 require that, to be installed in consumers gas installations in Western Australia, Type A appliances must be:
- individually approved for such installation by an inspector; and
- marked with a badge to this effect,
unless they are the same as an appliance that is currently approved for such installation by the Director of Energy Safety
EnergySafety launched a new independent scheme for certifying Type A (Domestic and Commercial) Gas Appliances in Western Australia in October 2003.
The scheme was developed to replace the service previously provided by Alinta. In consultation with EnergySafety, Alinta has ceased providing a Type A appliance certification service and supports this new inspection regime.
Although the Director of Energy Safety designates inspectors, testing/certification is conducted on request by, and at cost to, consumers. Such inspectors provide their services on a fee-for-service basis.
Continued designation (ie. authorisation) is subject to satisfactory performance of functions, which is audited from time to time by EnergySafety.
