Fatalities

In 2006-07, there were three fatalities in which gas was found to be the cause. Briefly:

  • A two burner LP Gas camp stove and LP Gas cylinder found under rubble (collapsed roof) after a house fire appeared to have been in use prior to or at the time the fire was initiated. The fire trapped a mother and her two children in the house and they subsequently died.

In 2003-04, there were two fatalities in which gas was found to be the cause. Briefly:

  • An elderly person died when a gas-fired space heater was accidentally knocked over and set fire to her residence.
  • Gas leaking from an open ended gas connection point resulted in an explosion and fire. The occupier of the building was badly injured in the explosion and subsequently died in hospital.

In 2002-03, there was one fatality in which gas was found to be the cause. Briefly:

  • A person received fatal injuries in a house fire that was fuelled by a reticulated gas supply.

In 2001-02, there was one fatality although gas was not the cause. Briefly:

  • Improper use of a 45 Kg LP Gas cylinder caused the cylinder to explode, resulting in the death of the property owner.
