ULP price alert – start of new price cycle in Perth

Issue Date:  -  Tuesday, 29 September 2009

FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 30 September 2009, most BP sites are increasing their ULP prices to 127.9 cents per litre (cpl), an increase of up to 16.4 cpl. Also, some Caltex sites are increasing their ULP prices up to 127.9, an increase of up to 14.4 cpl. This signals the start of a new petrol price cycle in Perth.

During 2008, Perth did not experience a regular price cycle. Since the re-introduction of a price cycle earlier this year, Perth’s petrol prices now follow a weekly cycle, where prices increase sharply during a two to three day period and then slowly decrease for the remainder of the week.

Not all brands move their prices at the same time so there is a wide variation in prices from site to site.

196 (67%) petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 116.1 cpl tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for

  •          109.9 cpl at 3 sites in the East;
  •          109.9 cpl at 18 sites in the North; and
  •          109.8 cpl at 2 sites in the South.

Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at   www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au or by phoning 1300 55 08 08.
