Avon Valley focus of Consumer Protection blitz

Issue Date:  -  Friday, 13 November 2009

Consumer Protection officers will be visiting the Avon Valley later in November approaching retailers, car dealers, real estate agents, local associations and charities to discuss consumer issues and educate and assist traders.

Members of the team will visit local businesses in Northam, Toodyay and York to discuss the rights and responsibilities of consumers and traders under consumer protection laws.

The team will also hold information sessions for local consumers and businesses.

Commissioner for Consumer Protection Anne Driscoll said the Avon Valley sweep was part of a wider program to strengthen services in regional areas of Western Australia.

“It is important to ensure all consumers and businesses throughout the State are supported and know their rights and obligations under the law,” Ms Driscoll said.

The Consumer Protection officers will be in the area for three days (November 25-27).

A community forum will be held at the Northam Country Club at 10am on Thursday, 26 November 2009.  This will give consumers and business operators in the region the opportunity to get information and ask questions about a range of issues that may affect them.
