Demand for labour in WA slows

Issue Date:  -  Wednesday, 18 March 2009

Western Australia has maintained its record as the state with the lowest unemployment, despite a significant softening in the labour market.

Labour Force figures released this morning by the Australian Bureau of Statistics put WA’s unemployment rate in February at 4.2% seasonally adjusted, a point 9 of a percent rise on the January rate of 3.3%.

Despite the rise, the February figures continue WA’s long run as the state with the nation’s lowest jobless rate, a title it has held for 18 consecutive months.

Nationally unemployment rose to 5.2% seasonally adjusted.
