ULP price alert – start of new price cycle in Perth

Issue Date:  -  Wednesday, 17 June 2009

FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 17 June 2009, a number of Caltex sites are increasing their ULP prices up to 135.9 cpl, an increase of up to 18 cpl. Most BP sites are increasing their ULP prices by 15.4 cpl  up to 133.9 cents per litre (cpl). This signals the start of a new petrol price cycle in Perth.

Perth’s petrol prices now follow a weekly cycle, where prices increase sharply during a two to three day period and then slowly decrease for the remainder of the week. Not all brands move their prices at the same time so there is a wide variation in prices from site to site. On average, the cheapest brand tomorrow is Coles Express, with an average price of 115.5 cpl at all of its sites.

Deputy Prices Commissioner, Aaron Rayner, said retail petrol prices had now increased over 20 percent since the beginning of the year as a result of firmer international prices.

He also said that Tuesday was now generally the cheapest day of the week to fill up, with Friday being the most expensive.

183 (61.2%) petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 121.6 cpl tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for

·         115.5 cpl at 3 sites in the East;

·         115.5 cpl at 20 sites in the North; and

·         115.5 cpl at 25 sites in the South.

Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at   www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au or by phoning 1300 55 08 08.
