ULP price alert - start of new price cycle in Perth

Issue Date:  -  Tuesday, 21 July 2009

FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 22 July 2009, some BP sites are increasing their ULP prices up to 127.9 cents per litre (cpl), an increase of 15.4 cpl.  A number of Caltex sites are also increasing their ULP prices up to 126.9 cpl, an increase of 16 cpl.  This signals the start of a new petrol price cycle in Perth.

Deputy Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner pointed out there had been a slight downward trend in Perth petrol prices in the past month, reflecting cheaper international prices and a relatively strong exchange rate.

“Despite this recent easing, average petrol prices were still almost 20 percent higher than they were at the start of the year,” Mr Rayner said.

Tomorrow, 198 (69%) petrol stations will be selling below the metropolitan average of 114.9 cpl.

Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for

  • 109.9 cpl at 6 sites in the East;
  • 109.9 cpl at 39 sites in the North; and
  • 109.2 cpl at 2 sites in the South.

Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at   www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au or by phoning 1300 55 08 08.
