Unleaded petrol price alert

A number of Caltex sites are hiking the price of unleaded petrol (ULP) tomorrow, Thursday 8 January, by up to 13.4 cents per litre to 109.9cpl.
This follows a similar price hike at some BP outlets today. These price moves by some Caltex and BP outlets do not reflect the movements in the wholesale petrol price, which has decreased slightly during the last week.
The average price of ULP across Perth tomorrow will be 99.2cpl. More than 200 outlets will be selling ULP for less than this price.
FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today while cheaper prices are still available, or to shop around tomorrow using FuelWatch.
Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for:
- 95.8cpl at United Roleystone in the East/Hills;
- 95.5cpl at Peak Neerabup in the North; and
- 95.5cpl at United South Lake in the South.

Background information:
- Fuel prices in Perth are primarily influenced by the price of refined petrol in Singapore and the USD/AUD exchange rate, not the day-to-day price of crude oil;
- Tomorrow’s retail price increases are not a result of increases in the wholesale petrol price;
- Typically, BP is the market leader in the Perth petrol market. Other sites tend to follow BP’s lead on prices;
- Perth petrol prices are currently at their lowest level since February 2005;
- Prices peaked in July 2008 at 160 cents per litre
- At current prices, motorists are saving approximately $30 when they fill up compared to what they were paying 6 months ago.
