Consumers warned about financially backing Info4pc

The Ministry of Fair Trading is warning consumers to be aware that Perth-based computer retailer Info4pc Pty Ltd is seeking financial support to fund its defence against current court action.

The company has to date failed to supply evidence to the Supreme Court supporting its case.

Info4pc recently updated its website and is now calling for consumers to form an action group and offer their support by way of financial assistance.

Commissioner for Fair Trading Patrick Walker said the website encouraged the company's customers waiting for computers to join the action group.

"The website implies that customers will receive their computers if they provide financial assistance to Info4pc to help fund its defence in court against current action taken by the Ministry of Fair Trading and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission," Mr Walker said.

"Consumers are reminded that customers' money, totalling $300,000, paid previously to the company for computers was transferred to a Spanish bank account, which the Ministry of Fair Trading is alleging is in direct breach of the Supreme Court undertakings.

"Customers should be very wary about sending any money to this company, as it is unlikely that they will receive the computers they ordered or a refund."

Mr Walker said Info4pc was still not trading, despite the company updating information on its website.
