Beware of scam promising sexual and financial success

The Ministry of Fair Trading is today warning consumers not to get caught up in a scam that promises instant financial, physical and sexual success for an outlay of $179.

The con, which was recently brought to the attention of Fair Trading by Member for Rockingham Mark McGowan, appears to involve a publishing company in Las Vegas.

A 'personal memo' was mailed to a Shoalwater pensioner, stating that if consumers ordered a 458-page manual titled God-Man: Our Final Evolution within seven days for $179, they would receive a free copy of the 582 page Neo-Tech Discovery.

"The memo states that after reading the manuals and learning the 'simple, easy, secret system', consumers will prosper in every area of their life - emotionally, personally, physically, romantically and financially," Commissioner for Fair Trading Patrick Walker said.

"It goes on to say that the system will help you to learn how to control anyone and make any man or woman like you, admire you or love you."

It is alleged that this offer comes with a 90-day, no-questions asked refund.

"As a general rule, the Ministry warns consumers against sending money to offers overseas unless the consumer knows the trader has a reliable history," Mr Walker said.

Consumers wanting fair trading advice can ring the Fair Trading Call Centre during office hours on 1300 30 40 54 for the cost of a local call. Last year the call centre gave free advice to more than 170,000 West Australians.
