Airtours Travel shuts down

Airtours Travel specialists, in Subiaco, have closed their doors leaving travel arrangements incomplete for a number of consumers.

The company went into voluntary administration as a result of financial difficulties on 30 June 2000.

The Commissioner for Fair Trading, Patrick Walker said, "the Ministry is concerned that travellers may not be aware of the closure of the travel agency."

The administrator and the Ministry of Fair Trading are keen to ensure that all travellers who have booked and paid for travel have time to make alternative arrangements.

"Consumers are protected under the provisions of the Travel Compensation Fund which provides a compensation mechanism for travellers where the agent has run into financial difficulties," said Mr Walker.

"The Ministry of Fair Trading can provide claim forms and advice on how to lodge a claim."

Consumers are advised to ring the Ministry on ++61 8 9282 0760 or the administrator, Sheridans on ++61 8 9221 9339 to obtain advice regarding their particular circumstances.
