Laws regulating the motor industry

In Western Australia the activities of motor vehicle dealers and repairers are controlled by laws.

Motor vehicle dealers in Western Australia have to comply with the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act. Dealers also have to comply with Motor Vehicle Dealers (Licensing) Regulations 1974, Motor Vehicle Dealers (Sales) Regulations 1974, Motor Vehicle Dealers (Infringements) Regulations 2002, Motor Vehicle Dealers (Prescribed Vehicles) Regulations 1974, and Car Market Regulations 1981.

Motor vehicle repairers have to comply with the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003.

The Motor Vehicle Dealers Act creates the Motor Vehicle Industry Board which approves licences for dealers and repairers. Each Act outlines the systems of licensing, trust account requirements and general regulatory requirements for motor vehicle dealers and repairers.
