Car market operator's premises

Requirement for premises to be authorised

The Motor Vehicle Dealers Act requires each applicant for a car market operator's licence must operate from premises suitable for the type of business for which the dealer's licence is sought.

Premises are 'suitable' if they have been approved by the local government authority.

Guidelines for registering premises

Each entity applying for a licence is required to submit the following information about the premises from which they intend to trade:

  1. Written approval from the relevant local government authority for the use of the premises as a car market outlet; and
  2. If the proposed yard is currently registered in the name of another operator, the existing Certificate of Registered Premises must be surrendered before a new one may be issued to the new operator.

Note: The Commissioner can attach conditions or restrictions to any premises approval.
