How to lodge a complaint about Motor Vehicles
If you have not been able to get any satisfaction by approaching the trader, you can make a formal complaint to Consumer Protection. We will advise you, and where appropriate, attempt to negotiate a resolution to the dispute.
How to lodge a complaint
We prefer that you lodge a complaint in writing. However, if you have a disability which makes it difficult for you to complete forms, you can contact our telephone advisory service on 1300 30 40 54 and ask if you can lodge the complaint by phone.
You can lodge a complaint by:
- downloading and completing a Consumer Protection Complaint Form, and mailing it to:

- phoning the Department of Commerce between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, on 1300 30 40 54 and requesting a Complaint Form be sent to you.
- visiting between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday to pick up a Complaint Form in person.

To help us understand what your complaint is about you should always send us photocopies (or PDFs, JPEGS if you are emailing your complaint) of all relevant documents including contracts, invoices, receipts, copies of letters and quotes.
