Work Safe Forums

The annual Work Safe Forums are presented by WorkSafe, the Commission for Occupational Safety and Health and WorkCover Western Australia.

The target audience for the forums is elected safety and health representatives – employees, managers and supervisors are also welcome to attend.

1. 2009 Work Safe Forums

The Perth 2009 Work Safe Forum will be held on 27 October at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. The key note speaker will be Dr Alison Dale, from safety consultancy Sentis. She will speak about the inevitable plateauing of  improvements to behaviour-based safety systems and the move to cognitive-based safety systems.

Plenary speakers include:

  • Professor Steve Allsop, Director of the National Drug Institute of Australia and Adjunct Professor with the Centre for International Health, Division of Health Sciences at Curtin University.  Steve will speak about drugs and alcohol in the workplace; and
  • Mark Leverence, HS & E Manager at RCR Engineering.  Mark will look into thought processes and motivating factors of peoples’ decision making processes.

The forum registration brochure will be available in early August 2009.

The 2009 regional  forums were held at Karratha on 12 May at the Tambrey Tavern and Function Centre and at Bunbury on 26 May at the Lord Forrest Hotel. 

2.  Perth Work Safe 2008 Forum

The Perth forum was held on 23 October 2008, at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. Around 570 delegates attended the forum.

Keynote speaker  Professor Niki Ellis, occupational health expert from the University of Queensland spoke about the effects of working under continued stress on the safety, health and wellbeing of workers.

Successful Work Safe Forums have been held in Perth each year since 2002.

2007 Perth Forum

The Perth 2007 Forum was held on Monday 22 October at the Perth Centre. The forum was WorkSafe’s main event during Safe Work Australia Week.

The forum featured a range of speakers with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in occupational safety and health. The 2007 program included a mix of plenary sessions and concurrent workshop sessions. Over 600 delegates attended on the day.
