About the Premier’s Research Fellowship Program

The Western Australian Premier’s Research Fellowship Program seeks to attract excellent researchers to Western Australia (WA), from overseas or interstate, to conduct scientific research that is internationally competitive and of specific benefit to WA.

The program will support scientific research activities with the potential to provide enhanced economic, environmental and social benefits to Western Australians.

The successful Premier’s Research Fellow(s) receive a package of $250,000 per annum for four years from the Western Australian government, inclusive of on-costs.  Significant additional support will be provided through the Host Institution(s).

Research Fellow's contribution to Western Australia

The successful applicant(s) will build and sustain world-class research teams with international linkages, increase the level of external funding brought to WA and significantly enhance the research effort in strategic areas.

Recipients of the Premier’s Fellowship are expected to make a significant contribution to the State’s science and technology capacity by:

  • Building a new scientific team or greatly enhancing an existing team to an internationally competitive level through leadership, role modelling, recruitment and training
  • Enhancing the reputation of WA as a place of excellence in science and technology
  • Enhancing WA's international networks in an area of science and technology.
