Legislation and policy

Resources Safety administers the Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004 (WA) and associated Dangerous Goods Safety Regulations 2007 (WA) covering the safe storage, handling and transport of dangerous goods and for related purposes. The Act and associated regulations replaced the Explosives and Dangerous Goods Act 1961 (WA), Dangerous Goods (Transport) Act 1998 (WA) and associated regulations on 1 March 2008.

Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004

Transitional arrangements

A number of transitional arrangements, as indicated in the regulations, apply until 28 February 2009.  Current licences issued before 1 March 2008 continue to be valid until they expire.  The transitional period for compliance with ADG 6 and the old dangerous goods transport regulations, or ADG 7 and the new transport regulations applies until 31 December 2008.  Further information on transitional arrangements is available from frequently asked questions.
