Review of the State Industrial Relations System
The Hon Troy Buswell MLA, Minister for Commerce, has announced an independent review of the Western Australian industrial relations system.
The review will consider all aspects of the State industrial relations system including the Industrial Relations Act 1979 and the Minimum Conditions of Employment Act 1993.
The review is to:
- take into account the federal Fair Work Act 2009 and identify which elements should form part of a reformed State industrial relations system as well as potential areas for harmonisation.
- identify areas of legislative reform including, but not limited to, unfair dismissal, employment agreements, State awards, union right of entry, minimum wages, dispute resolution and statutory minimum conditions of employment.
- make recommendations on existing structures including the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the Coal Industry Tribunal of Western Australia.
- consider the likely impact of any changes to the State industrial relations system on public sector employment.
