Eletricity supply network safety and network supply standards

Electricity (Supply Standards and System Safety) Regulations 2001

The Electricity (Supply Standards and System Safety) Regulations 2001 came into effect on 4 January 2002.

The Government has the clear policy objective to improve the level of competition in the Western Australian electricity market. However, any electricity market operating under competition principles needs to have mechanisms to ensure that public safety is preserved.

The Electricity (Supply Standards and System Safety) Regulations 2001 are designed to provide those mechanisms to ensure the safety of the public, consumers and electricity workers in the vicinity of electricity supply infrastructure (for example, high voltage lines, cables and substations).

Power line crossings of navigable waterways

EnergySafety has produced a Code of Practice that sets out the means for electricity network operators to ensure they adopt safe practices for power line crossings of navigable waterways in Western Australia.

The code was developed following extensive industry and public consultation. The practices set out are considered to be the minimum required to ensure the safety of the public and other users of waterways with power line crossings.
