ULP price alert - start of new price cycle in Perth

Issue Date:  -  Tuesday, 15 September 2009

FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 16 September 2009, most BP sites are increasing their ULP price to 129.9 cents per litre (cpl), an increase of up to 15 cpl. This signals the start of a new petrol price cycle in Perth.

Perth’s petrol prices typically follow a weekly cycle, where prices increase sharply during a two to three day period and then slowly decrease for the remainder of the week. Not all brands move their prices at the same time so there is a wide variation in prices from site to site.

In recent weeks international fuel prices have eased helped by the strong Australian dollar. If sustained, this will put downward pressure on retail prices. Current petrol prices are 27 cpl less than at this time last year and are at about the same level they were in September 2006.

Tomorrow, over 200 (68%) petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 118.8 cpl.

Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for:

  • 111.9 cpl at Gull Wycombe in the East;
  • 112.4 cpl at 2 sites in the North; and
  • 112.9 cpl at 2 sites in the South.

Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au or by phoning 1300 55 08 08.
