ULP price alert - start of new price cycle in Perth
Issue Date: - Tuesday, 30 June 2009
FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 1 July 2009, some BP sites are increasing their ULP prices by 16.4 cpl to 133.9 cpl. A number of Caltex sites are also increasing their ULP prices by 15 cpl to 132.9 cents per litre. This signals the start of a new petrol price cycle in Perth.
Fuel prices in Perth now follow a weekly cycle where prices increase sharply during a two to three day period and then decrease for the remainder of the week. Not all brands change their prices at the same time so there is wide variation from site to site. On average, the cheapest brand tomorrow is Caltex Woolworths.
Tomorrow, 196 (65.5%) petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 121.2 cpl.
Deputy Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner said Premium Unleaded Petrol (PULP) and 98RON petrol also followed the weekly cycle.
“Motorists who use these premium petrol types should be aware the price difference between premium petrol types and regular unleaded has increased in recent months,” Mr Rayner said.
The difference between PULP and regular unleaded petrol has increased to almost 9 cpl, up from 6.5 cpl a year ago. The price difference between 98RON petrol and regular unleaded petrol had also increased to almost 14 cpl, up from 11 cpl a year ago.
Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for
- 116.5 cpl at 4 sites in the East;
- 115.4 cpl at Caltex Woolworths Dianella in the North; and
- 115.4 cpl at Caltex Woolworths Beckenham in the South.
Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au or by phoning 1300 55 08 08.
