Plumber fined for failing to comply with rectification notice
Issue Date: - Wednesday, 22 April 2009
A Mindarie plumber has been fined in the Joondalup Magistrates Court for failing to comply with a Rectification Notice issued by the Plumbers Licensing Board.
Licensed plumber James Raymond Hudson of Butler did not attend the court and was convicted in his absence. Under s55 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2004 Hudson was fined $800 and ordered to pay $301 court costs.
Plumbers Licensing Board Chair Judy Seif said the purpose of rectification notices was to uphold the integrity of the industry and ensure the prescribed plumbing standards were maintained.
“The system is in place to not only safeguard the rights of consumers, but also to protect the quality of the community water supply, public health and safety, and the environment.”
Ms Seif reiterated the importance of licensees keeping to the law and complying with rectification notices issued by the Board’s Compliance Officers.
“It is vitally important that if a licensee receives a Rectification Notice that they comply within the given time frame and fix the work so that it complies with the accepted standards,” Ms Seif said.
The maximum penalty for failure to comply is $5000, and a criminal conviction.
