Beat the petrol price cycle
Issue Date: - Tuesday, 14 April 2009
Tomorrow (Wednesday, 15th April) most BP sites and some Caltex sites are increasing their petrol
prices by 15 cents per litre (cpl) to between 125.9 cpl and 127.9 cpl. This signals the start of a new
petrol price cycle in Perth.
FuelWatch is encouraging Perth motorists to buy their petrol today or tomorrow while cheaper
prices are still available and to always check petrol prices before they buy.
Deputy Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner said that a weekly petrol price cycle appeared to be
firmly established in the Perth market and motorists should adjust their buying accordingly.
“For the past month, Monday and Tuesday have become the cheapest days of the week to fill your
tank. Friday and Saturday are now, on average, the most expensive,” Mr Rayner said.
“The petrol buying habits of consumers are well known to the oil companies and that’s why petrol
prices are at their highest when most people fill-up”.
Perth’s petrol prices are now following a weekly cycle where prices increase sharply during a two to
three day period and then slowly decrease for the remainder of the week. Not all brands move their
prices at the same time so there tends to be a wide variation in prices from site to site. More than
ever, it pays motorists to shop around before filling up.
Over 180 petrol stations are selling below the metropolitan average of 115.2 cpl tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s cheapest ULP is available for:
East: 108.9 cpl at Coles Express Upper Swan Roadhouse and Cole Express Forrestfield.
South: 108.9 at Coles Express Bentley and Coles Express Cloverdale.
North: 108.5 cpl at Coles Express Wanneroo Pearsall and Coles Express Wanneroo.
Motorists can find the cheapest prices by checking the FuelWatch website at
