Former Northern Suburbs Real Estate Representative's Registration Cancelled

Issue Date:  -  Monday, 1 September 2008

The State Administrative Tribunal has cancelled the certificate of registration of Mr
Ahmed Kamil following an investigation by the Real Estate and Business Agents
Supervisory Board (REBA)
Mr Kamil, who was previously employed by the Eftos Group Pty Ltd t/as Eftos
Estates, has also been disqualified for ten years from obtaining registration in the
industry.

Better known in the industry as Eddie Kamil, he faced several allegations under the
Agents and Sales Representatives Code of Conduct for acting in a dishonest,
deceptive and misleading way to a party in a real estate transaction, acting when in a
position of conflict and otherwise acting in a manner rendering him unfit to hold a
certificate of registration in the real estate industry.

In an attempt to buy a particular property owned by a client of his employers, Mr
Kamil concealed from that client that he was the actual purchaser of the property.
The cover up by Mr Kamil also involved misleading his employer, a settlement
agency and state and federal authorities, REBA's Chairman, Mark Cuomo said.

The Real Estate and Business Agents Act 1978 requires that registered real estate
and business sales representatives be of suitable character to operate in the
industry. Once registered, real estate and business sales representatives are
required to comply with that Act and the industry Code of Conduct.

'Mr Kamil's conduct is a reflection on his lack of fitness to operate in this industry.
The Act and associated Code of Conduct are in place to ensure there can be public
confidence in the industry. REBA is committed to enforcing the law at all times by
agents and sales representatives, and any inappropriate conduct will not be
tolerated', Mr Cuomo said.
