FuelWatch in WA - business as usual

Issue Date:  -  Wednesday, 19 November 2008

40,000 daily emails and rising

The WA Government’s petrol prices watchdog FuelWatch is unaffected by the recent federal government decision to not implement a similar program throughout Australia.

FuelWatch opened its doors for business in January 2001, bringing for the first time, price certainty and awareness to Western Australian motorists, with the stability of prices being held by fuel outlets for a 24 hour period each time they changed.

“Our FuelWatch system, which last month alone saw a quarter of a million visits to the website, was to be the blueprint for the federal system,” Deputy Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner said.

“More than 40,000 emails per day are sent to motorists who request specific information on where the best buys for fuel are, and this demand is showing no sign of slowing down.

“Motorists tell us that they use FuelWatch as it empowers them with information enabling choice and the ability to plan purchases and support those fuel outlets that maintain lower prices.

“We want to assure WA consumers that it is business as usual for FuelWatch. Anyone wanting to save money on their fuel bills should visit the FuelWatch website. It’s fast, it’s effective and it’s free,” Mr. Rayner said.
