Free workshop for Telco Consumers
Issue Date: - Wednesday, 5 March 2008
The implications of Telstra's CDMA network closure and hidden traps of mobile phone "capped" plans will be among the topics discussed at a special telecommunications consumer workshop in Perth this week.
The free day-long workshop will be held at the Constitutional Centre in West Perth on Friday, starting at 9.30am.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Patrick Walker urged anybody with an interest in telecommunications issues to attend the workshop, which is being sponsored by Consumer Protection.
Mr Walker said the speakers would include Consumers' Telecommunications Network CEO Teresa Corbin and Telephone Information Services Standards Council (TISSC) Arbitrator Una Lawrence. (TISSC is the complaints-handling authority for the 190 Premium Services numbers.) There will also be a presentation from the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman's office (TIO).
Mr Walker said the Do Not Call Register (for consumers having problems with unwanted telemarketing calls), broadband and payphones were among other topics that would be discussed at the workshop.
There would also be an open session at the end of the day in which consumers would be free to ask other questions related to the telecommunications industry.
The Constitutional Centre is at the corner of Havelock Street and Parliament Place, West Perth.
Anybody interested in attending the seminar should call 02 9572 6007 or Sarah Wilson on 0414 923 487 or visit http://ctn.org.au/content.cfm
