Issue Date:  -  Thursday, 7 August 2008

Western Australia has begun the new financial year with its reputation intact as one of the easiest states in which to get a job.

Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics puts WA’s unemployment rate in July at 3.1%, considerably lower than the national average of 4.3%.

Acting Executive Director of Labour Relations with the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection, Mr Bob Horstman, said the July figure highlights the continued strength of the Western Australian economy.

July’s jobless rate is a marginal improvement on the June figure of 3.2%.

Mr Horstman said July is the twelfth month in a row Western Australia has recorded the lowest unemployment rate of any state.
