Council of Australian Governments - National licensing system for specified occupations 

At its meeting on 30 April 2009, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to develop a National Licensing System for specified occupations in the context of a broader national reform framework.

The National Law for the National Licensing System (NLS) has been prepared by the Australasian Parliamentary Counsel’s Committee, a national committee representing the legislation drafting offices in Australia and New Zealand. 

The Exposure Draft for the National Law provides the governance arrangements for the National Occupational Licensing Authority, high level framework for the system and regulation making powers that will deal with the operational aspects of the system and occupational specific issues.

Responses to the Exposure Draft must be submitted by email.

NOTE: To enhance transparency of the public comment process, the National Licensing Taskforce will publish all submissions on the National Licensing website unless they are marked “In-Confidence”.

Closing date for responses:

28 December 2009. Please note that the COAG National Licensing Taskforce is unable to grant any extension for the lodgement of submissions.  Submissions received after the close of the public comment period will not be considered.

The Australian Consumer Law - consultation on draft regulation impact statements

The Standing Committee of Officials of Consumer Affairs has announced a two week consultation period during which time that are seeking feedback from interested stakeholders on the Draft Regulation Impact Statements that are to be considered for inclusion in the Australian Consumer Law.

This is the first part of a larger program of consultation. Consumer Protection will hold a stakeholder forum in January 2010 in order to consider the second Commonwealth Bill to implement the Australian Consumer Law. Please note that the current proposal at this stage does not represent agreed policies of the Australian Government or of any State or Territory government.

A request made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) for a submission marked confidential to be made available will be determined in accordance with that Act.
